Pharmacology School: Your Ticket To The Pharmaceutical Field

If you plan on entering the pharmaceutical field, then you will have to go through a formal training program and receive a pharmacy degree from a reputable pharmacology school. For aspiring licensed pharmacists, their training program must be able to get them a Master of Pharmacy Degree and Doctor of Pharmacy credentials. Before employment, licensed pharmacists must also be registered with the regulatory body of the locality or area they will be working in. In most cases, there is also a requirement of earning a specific number of hours in work experience in a pharmaceutical setting while being supervised by an already registered pharmacist.

Pharmacology schools may also offer formal training programs for individuals who want to have a career as a pharmacy technician. Pharmacy techs normally take charge of the filling of prescription drugs – this includes labelling bottles, counting, weighing, and measuring medications, and ensuring that dosages and other significant amounts are accurate. Before, those who wish to work as a pharmacy tech only need to get on-the-job training. Since the pharmaceutical field has become more diverse and more competitive, it is highly recommended to undergo a formal training program in order to get a more comprehensive and up to date training that reflects the changes that this career is undergoing.

While there are many pharmacology schools which offer traditional campus-based training, there are also some who offer online training programs to cater to individuals who can’t find time to attend a traditional class setup. Generally speaking, there is really not much difference in terms of education quality when it comes to online and traditional schools and training programs, so long as they have been accredited by a respected body or organization such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) for pharmacy technicians and Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) for pharmacists.

Since the pharmacy technician career is a faster way to get into the pharmaceutical field, more individuals get into this profession more, especially with the decent salary and job security that it has to offer. While enrolled in training programs offered by pharmacology schools, you can expect to take up important subjects such as pharmaceutical terminologies, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacology, pharmacy law, physiology, anatomy, and pharmacy administration. It is very important to also check that your training program can help prepare you for successful completion of the pharmacy technician certification exam that is administered by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).

When choosing a pharmacology school to get your formal training program from, try to choose one that can really provide your needs. It is never a good idea to choose just because of their popularity – always consider certain factors such as course offerings, school facilities, admission requirements, cost of training, and success history of their graduates. You can make an evaluation of each school by visiting their website and reading important sections about what they can offer you, or better yet, personally meet with school representatives so that you can make more detailed inquiries about the school.
